If we have children under 18, we should appoint a guardian in case we become incapacitated or die. We will avoid the following problems:
- Avoid court proceedings and costs: Without a guardian, the court will decide and it can be time consuming and costly, possibly costing thousands of dollars.
- Reduce family conflict: Relatives, etc., may argue over child custody, causing tension in the family.
- Ensure compatibility: You can choose someone whose values and style are compatible with your family and children. If you don't choose in advance, the Court will choose and your children may not like these appointed people.
- Protect stability: Help your children have stability and avoid unnecessary turmoil through the Court process.
